This everything shower routine is the routine that will leave you feeling and smelling divine. Keep reading to discover more about the viral ‘everything shower’ that will take your self-care routine to the next level.
Everything showers are my absolute favourite. Nothing says a reset day like an everything shower routine, they are the perfect self-care Sunday ritual.
What exactly is an everything shower?
An everything shower differs from the usual ‘body wash shower’ or ‘hair wash and body wash shower’.
They involve many more steps, including pre-shower and post-shower steps alongside the actual in-shower routine.
I know what you’re thinking, it sounds like a lot but rest assured it’s worth it.
Everything showers can be perfectly customised to suit the mood, occasion and needs.
The steps included in everything showers are not necessarily steps that you would include every time that you shower, such as dry brushing, hair oiling or shaving.
They are those kinds of showers that you have once a week or before special occasions such as dates or events.
Everything shower routine
The ultimate everything shower routine that is designed to leave you looking and feeling glowing.
Now for the first phase – the pre-shower preparation.
1. Hair oil
I always love to start my everything shower routine with a hair oil and scalp massage. I then put my hair up with a claw clip and wait 2-4 hours until washing it.
Check out our glamour magick rosemary-infused hair oil recipe here, the hair growth is real. It is my favourite natural DIY hair growth hack and uses only two ingredients.
2. Set the mood
While waiting for the hair oil treatment to work its magic, now is the perfect time to set the mood.
For me, this looks like putting my phone on DND, lighting a candle and picking out a comfy outfit for after my shower.
You may wish to remove any old nail polish and lay out any products you are going to be using.
P.S. If you are dry brushing instead of using an exfoliating product, now is the perfect time!
Prepare clean towels and place them aside or in a towel warmer before putting on your favourite playlist. Now for the actual shower.
3. Hair wash
Start with a double shampoo to ensure that the scalp is properly cleansed of the oil before going in with your conditioner. Apply any hair masks you wish to use and rinse thoroughly.
4. Exfoliate and shave
Now it is time to exfoliate and shave if preferred. Use an exfoliating scrub like this one by Dove or a sugar scrub and rinse thoroughly before going in with shave oil and your shaving routine.
5. Body wash
End your shower with a cleansing soap and body wash to remove dirt and any residue from hair products.
If you’d prefer something unscented, castile soap is a great go-to. During this step, I love to use an exfoliating net like this with a bar soap followed by a body wash.
Make sure all conditioner/hair mask residue is thoroughly rinsed off to help prevent body acne and avoid clogged pores.
Tip: Use a t-shirt or microfibre towel to partially dry your hair after washing for a gentle alternative.
6. Body oil and moisturiser
After my shower is over, I love to apply an organic sweet almond oil whilst my skin is still a little damp. Sweet almond oil is anti-inflammatory, rich in vitamin E and great for sensitive skin.
Applying a nourishing oil or moisturiser after showering is especially important if you have exfoliated the skin to ensure that it is well hydrated.
Tip: Add body oil after moisturising lotions to lock in the moisture and keep skin hydrated.
7. Skincare
Now for your skincare routine!
Be sure to thoroughly cleanse the area around your hairline to remove any hair product residue. You may wish to exfoliate at this step too.
By this point, I’ve usually thrown on a robe and will then go in with a face cleanser, exfoliator and toner.
I then apply an oil or moisturiser to the face and neck areas.
Extra steps to include:
- Use a face roller to de-puff. I love using ice globes.
- Use a gua sha for lymphatic drainage
- Add under-eye patches
8. Dry your hair
Use a blow dryer or let your hair air dry. Add in any favourite hair care products, don’t forget heat protection spray if you’re using heat!
For a low-effort blow-out style, use an overnight heatless curling set. I adore doing heatless curls, especially after an everything shower.
9. Now relax!
Everything shower complete. My favourite way to end an everything shower routine is to make a hydrating drink and get comfy with fresh sheets and pjs.
Here are some self-care ideas to end your everything shower routine:
- Make a healthy snack
- Journal
- Make a cold drink
- Plan your week ahead (For those self-care Sunday resets)
- Watch a fave show
- Meditate
- Yoga to relax
- Listen to a podcast
- Get an early night
- DIY mani/pedi
