There’s nothing quite like getting into bed on a Sunday evening with fresh sheets after an everything shower, the house smelling clean and fresh, with your schedule organized for the upcoming week. Sunday resets are 100% one of my favourite ways of practicing self-care.

 

What is a Sunday reset routine?

 

Otherwise known as a weekly reset, a Sunday reset routine is a way of hitting the ‘reset button’ and setting yourself up for a fresh and productive start to the new week.

A Sunday reset is a great opportunity to tackle household duties, practice self-care, set intentions for the week ahead, and plan your weekly schedule.

 

15 Sunday Reset Routine Ideas

1. Cleaning

 

Refresh your environment by cleaning up any mess accumulated throughout the previous week.

Here are some ideas to use as inspiration for your cleaning reset routine:

  • Do a load of laundry
  • Change bed sheets
  • Clean out the fridge
  • Wipe down surfaces
  • Hoover
  • Clean the kitchen sink
  • Refresh your workspace
  • Take out the trash
  • Clean pet items (bowls, litter trays, etc.)
  • Clean appliances (stovetop, coffee machine, water filters, etc.)
  • Refresh the garbage disposal
  • Clean the bathroom
  • Mop floor

 

2. Restock groceries/Meal prep

 

Stock up on groceries you will be needing throughout the week. If you don’t feel like going in-store, you can always place an order for delivery or pick-up at a convenient time.

Sunday resets are perfect for meal prepping. This saves a bunch of time and cleaning and ensures you have delicious meals ready when you need them.

Besides preparing full meals, a Sunday reset routine is also a good time to wash, cut and store any fruits and vegetables you will use during the week. This is a handy hack to do ahead of time to ensure you have healthy, quick snacks on hand, especially if you have little ones!

 

3. Water plants

 

Show your plants some love by watering them, cleaning up any fallen leaves, wiping dust off leaves and inspecting to see if their current location is suitable for their needs.

 

4. Air out the home

 

Improve air quality in your home and freshen up your space by opening up the windows. This is especially beneficial to do when using cleaning products that contain harsh ingredients, as it reduces chemical exposure and keeps your home safer.

 

5. Plan your weekly schedule

 

Set yourself up for a productive and organised start to the week by planning out your weekly schedule. Make sure to write down important reminders, such as appointments and meetings you will be attending.

Planning your week reduces stress, assists you with staying organised and helps with time management. It is also an opportunity to pencil in self-care time and leisure activities amongst everyday responsibilities.

 

6. Plan outfits

 

Get prepared for the new week with outfit planning to save yourself extra time in the mornings.

 

7. Charge electronics

 

Don’t forget to charge your electronics! Plug in any devices you will be using throughout the upcoming week, such as Bluetooth headphones, your mobile phone, laptop, and smart watch, to ensure you will be fully powered going into the new week.

8. Run errands

 

Use your Sunday reset to run errands such as filling your gas tank for the week to save you from last-minute gas station trips during work commutes/school drop-offs.

Other errands you may wish to tackle ahead of the new week include washing your car, buying groceries and booking appointments.

 

9. Take an everything shower

 

Is a Sunday reset routine even complete without an everything shower?

Ending your day with a shower paired with your favourite hygiene, beauty and self-care rituals sets you up for a rejuvenated and fresh start to the week. Plus, a good pamper is the perfect way to end a day of cleaning and organizing!

 

Here is some inspiration for your everything shower routine:

  • Pre-shower hair mask treatment for deep conditioning
  • Dry brushing or using an exfoliating body scrub
  • Scalp massage to promote hair growth and relaxation
  • Shaving or waxing
  • Using a leave-in hair oil or conditioner

  • Giving yourself a DIY mani-pedi

 

10. Cook a meal

 

Treat yourself to a home-cooked meal or get take-out, because you deserve it after a day of cleaning and organizing!

Get outdoors for a walk to get some fresh air and light exercise. Bring along your family, a friend or use this time for some quiet ‘you’ time to end the week on a mindful, refreshing note.

 

12. Get extra sleep

 

A Sunday reset routine doesn’t have to be all about performing household duties and being on the go. Hit snooze—use this time to rest, recharge and catch up on sleep if you feel called to.

 

13. Listen to a podcast or playlist whilst you clean

 

Make your weekly reset routine more exciting by pairing it with a podcast, audiobook or a playlist. This is a fun way to incorporate habit stacking, learn something new, keep up with news or your favourite creators whilst still keeping up with your household chores.

Whether it’s dividing the cleaning tasks up or taking charge of running errands whilst someone gets a head start on the meal prep, you can be sure to get the job done faster, leaving plenty of room for some Sunday evening relaxation.

How to create a weekly reset routine

 

Here are 4 tips for creating your perfect Sunday reset routine.

 

1. Reflect on what Sunday means to you

 

Sunday resets are great because you can tailor them to suit your needs and preferences. Reflect on what Sunday means to you.

Below are some prompts to assist you; you can reflect on them mentally or use them as journal prompts.

  • How do you want your Sundays to look?
  • How do you wish to feel at the end of the weekend and as the new week starts?
  • How do you prefer to end your week and prepare for Monday?
  • How can you align your Sunday reset routine with these reflections?

 

2. Get clear on your priorities & tasks

 

Make a list of your priorities. Remember, your Sunday reset doesn’t have to involve a million things on your to-do list, or look like anyone else’s.

Depending on how you prefer to organize your cleaning rota, you can leave some tasks out or decide to save your Sunday cleaning for the most commonly used areas, such as the bathroom and kitchen.

Get clear on what needs to be done around the household and what errands you wish to complete.
