Witchy self-care ideas for when you need an extra sprinkle of magic.
Having a self-care practice looks different for everyone and the activities involved can be tailored to suit our individual needs, abilities, moods and much more! That’s why I love it.
In this post, we focus on witchy self-care and how it can benefit us.
What is witchy self-care?
Witchy self-care allows you to check in with yourself and show up for yourself not just physically and mentally but emotionally and energetically too.
The self-care activities and rituals involved vary depending on an individual’s practice and beliefs.
Typically, spiritual and witchy self-care incorporates grounding activities such as connecting with nature and the elements as well as practising presence to recentre your energy.
Embodiment practices such as yoga and breathwork may also be practiced which are both great ways of grounding and anchoring into the body.
Tending to your spiritual hygiene by cleansing your space or taking some time to refresh and restore your energy with a spiritual bath using herbs and tools to suit your needs at that specific moment might just be the self-care you need.
For some, witchy self-care involves connecting with spirit guides or deities they devote to and work with.
Personally, I believe that practicing these kinds of self-care is highly important especially when delving into shadow work and emotional healing.
This way we can ensure that we are being gentle with ourselves, checking in with our boundaries and needs as well as striving towards a balanced approach to shadow work.
In conclusion, witchy and spiritual self-care is a wonderful holistic way of tending to your well-being and deepening your practice.
20 Witchy self-care ideas
The list of self-care rituals and ideas below have been carefully put together with the intention of cultivating feelings of relaxation, grounding, self-love and fun! all whilst holding space for personal preferences and needs etc.
1. Connect with the element you feel most drawn to
Intentionally connecting with the 5 elements (earth, air, fire, water and spirit/ether) opens us up to the magic existing all around us in nature and throughout the Universe.
Connecting with these powerful forces deepens our relationship with the elements themselves as well as the relationship we have with ourselves.
For example, to connect with the element of water you can visit a body of water, make moon water or even take a shower.
2. Refresh your altar or sacred space
Giving the altar or sacred space a refresh every so often helps to clear out any old stagnant energy and brings forth a lighter atmosphere to the space overall.
If you have a dedicated altar/area for a specific deity or ancestors that you work with, tending to these sacred spaces is a simple yet lovely way of showing respect and devotion to them.
Life certainly gets busy and when we are slacking in the self-care department, these things can easily fall to the back of the to-do list.
A quick dust down or a cleanse with your preferred tool may be all that is needed!
3. Play some music
Listening to music such as binaural beats, nature sounds or sound baths is a soothing way of bringing in some self-care via sound!
Meditating with music associated with a deity is also a great way to connect with them if you engage in deity work.
You could also put together a playlist of your favourite tracks that connect you to your inner fire and magic.
4. Glamour magick
Experimenting with glamour magick can be transformational when it comes to confidence and self-love. Glamours can be cast for many different purposes!
A fun and easy example is painting your nails with a colour to match your intentions, such as red for personal power and beauty.
One of my most used ways of utilising glamour magick is to speak affirmations as I braid my hair (e.g. to invoke protection or confidence), you can also add a coloured hair tie or ribbon that matches your intention.
This DIY hair growth oil recipe infused with the purifying and protective properties of the ingredients used (rosemary and olive oil) is one of my favourite witchy self-care hacks.
Not only can it be used as a nourishing pre-wash hair treatment but you can also add a couple of drops when adding a protection braid!
5. Use essential oils
Essential oils can be used in different ways such as adding a few drops into a diffuser, a bath or creating a blend of your favourite scents with a carrier oil to massage into the skin.
Some examples of essential oils that are wonderful for relaxation include cedarwood, frankincense and patchouli.
6. Pull a tarot card and meditate on it
Doing this can provide insights, guidance and any messages we might need at this time.
Meditating with the card allows us to explore further interpretive meanings of the card itself which is also a great hack when learning tarot!
7. Paint or draw sigils
Getting creative with sigils and art supplies is a beautiful way of expressing creativity and working with sigil magic.
Painting and allowing your creativity to flow also helps to connect with and balance the sacral chakra (Svadhisthana).
8. Intuitive dance
Put on a track of your choice and try some intuitive movement/dance, allowing your body to move in ways that feel natural and good.
This raises your vibration and can move any stagnant energy!
It is also another way of connecting to the sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) as well as your body as a whole and helps to build confidence overall.
9. Plan a ritual
Another witchy self-care idea is to create a spell and plan a ritual that you feel would benefit you.
If you work with the moon cycle, you may be interested in checking the current moon phase and pick a time that aligns best with your intentions!
This also gives you something to look forward to if you need a pick-me-up.
10. Spend time at your altar/sacred space
Have you ever had a long day and just want to sit at your altar or special sacred space afterwards? I know I have!
Everyone has their own unique and special practices they like to do at their altar.
From journalling, performing rituals, connecting with my spirit guides and everything in between, this is definitely one of my favourite things to do when I need to recuperate.
11. Use affirmations
Our words are powerful.
Affirmations whether they are recited out loud, in your head or even written down are a fantastic way of boosting your mood and manifesting desires.
